Blog Tour: Mind Games by Heather Petty with Playlist & Giveaway!

ABOUT MIND GAMES:

Sherlock Holmes and Miss James “Mori” Moriarty may have closed their first case, but the mystery is far from over in the thrilling sequel to Lock & Mori, perfect for fans of Maureen Johnson and Sherlock.
You know their names. Now discover their beginnings.

Mori’s abusive father is behind bars…and she has never felt less safe. Threatening letters have started appearing on her doorstep, and the police are receiving anonymous tips suggesting that Mori—not her father—is the Regent’s Park killer. To make matters worse, the police are beginning to believe them.

Through it all, Lock—frustrating, brilliant, gorgeous Lock—is by her side. The two of them set out to discover who is framing Mori, but in a city full of suspects, the task is easier said than done. With the clock ticking, Mori will discover just how far she is willing to go to make sure that justice is served, and no one—not even Lock—will be able to stop her.

PLAYLIST

I have a Spotify playlist called L&M2, which was my writing soundtrack while I drafted and revised MIND GAMES. And once in a while, a song that really fits a particular scene would come up, and I’d put the song on repeat while I worked out the details. Without being too spoilery, here are a few songs that became soundtrack songs to important scenes in the book:

Make It Rain by Tom Waits – “I want to believe/In the mercy of the world again” Short Change Hero by The Heavy – “When I love you like the way I love you/And I suffer, but I ain't gonna cut you 'cause/This ain't no place for no hero.”

Talk Show Host by Radiohead – “I want to, I want to be someone else or I'll explode”
I Know Places by Lykke Li – “Don't ask me when, but ask me why./Don't ask me how, but ask me where./There is a road. There is a way./There is a place. There is a place.” Sia’s The Space Between became an anthem of sorts for Lock and Mori as they had to face down the broadening divide between them and whether they’d be able to stay together or give in to that divide. “Oh, we don't bend, we're breaking
The space between is deafening
No one's moving, we lack the courage to
We lay in stalemate, wishing the other would” A few other songs I used while I wrote the scenes between them:

Touch by Lights Fade Low – “No one will take you/No one will break you/I’ll keep you whole until I die” Love Like This by Kodaline – “A love like this won't last forever/I know that a love like this won't last forever/But I, I don't really mind, I don't really mind at all” Don’t Go by Rae Morris – “Don't go,/Don't feel like you have to,/Only if you want to,/Fill my world with hope again”
It’s All A Lie by Keren Ann –
“So I keep my wit, my running game
My shoulders straight, chin up high
But it's all a lie
It's all a lie, it's all a lie And I forget how the time, it flies
When my fingers crossed, I hope in vain
That you'll be home with sleepy eyes
To fix it all, cause you know my pain”

ABOUT HEATHER W. PETTY:

Heather Petty has been obsessed with mysteries since she was twelve, which is when she decided that stories about murders in London drawing rooms and English seaside villages were far superior to all other stories. She is the author of the Lock & Mori series. She lives in Reno, Nevada, with her husband, daughter, and four hopelessly devious cats. You can visit her online at HeatherWPetty.com.
