Book Tour & Giveaway: Deception of a Highlander by Madeline Martin

Official Blog Tour

Hosted by MMSAI Tours

April 20th – 24th & April 27th – May 1st

Author: Madeline Martin

Release Date: April 28th, 2015

Publisher:  Diversion Books

Scottish Romance doesn’t get much steamier—or more dangerous—than a spy hunting her quarry, and losing her heart to him instead. To pay a seemingly impossible debt, Mariel Brandon has become a spy for Aaron, one of England’s deadliest minds. Aaron’s latest mission for the sharp-witted and daring Mariel is to find two people in a heavily fortified castle on the Isle of Skye, a castle headed by the clan MacDonald and the powerful Kieran. Mariel is to seduce Kieran and get him to take her to Skye. If she succeeds, Aaron promises to let Mariel’s young brother go, and to free both of them from their debt.  If she fails, her brother will die.

What she doesn’t count on is craving Kieran MacDonald almost immediately upon meeting him. Now Mariel must keep a secret from Kieran—one that could get them both killed—as she tries to form a plan that will save her brother, get her out from under Aaron’s thumb once and for all, and keep her in Kieran’s strong arms forever.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!

This was the first Scottish Romance I have read, and it did not disappoint in any way! I loved Mariel, she was strong and smart. She is supposed to seduce Kieran. Kieran is also strong and smart. So these two definitely meet their match.

This book is action packed from the beginning to the end. I flew through the pages. I loved how Kieran spoke. Honestly, I think anyone would fall in love with Kieran.

The author wrote the scenes so perfectly you felt like you were there, riding alongside them on your own horse, watching the story unfold.

Give this one a try, you won't be disappointed!

Mini Myths Book Review Blitz with Author Joan Holub and Illustrator Leslie Patricelli

Hi everyone, Kara here, with two reviews. Mini Myths are board books, and the ones I am reviewing today are "Make a Wish Midas" and "Brush your Hair, Medusa". Also available are "Be Patient Pandora" and "Play Nice, Hercules".

About the books:

Midas wants everything to be his favorite color—yellow! He chooses yellow clothes, eats yellow foods, and uses only the yellow paint at his easel. But when he impulsively paints his beloved green Dinoboo, Midas discovers that too much of a good thing is a big mess! Joan Holub’s carefully crafted text is brought to life by Leslie Patricelli’s famously humorous illustrations. Includes a summary of the original Midas’s Wish myth at the end.
Medusa refuses to care for her hair, her long locks getting knottier and dirtier with each passing page. Her hair rebellion elicits frozen expressions of shock from her family, but nothing will convince Medusa to brush. Only her hairdresser approaches Medusa with bravery and a blade, successfully solving the problem . . . with a short haircut! All are pleased with this drastic yet adorable solution. Leslie Patricelli’s depictions of this physical comedy bring a lively visual narrative to Joan Holub’s expertly focused text. Includes a summary of the original Medusa’s Wild Hair myth at the end.

About the Author:
Joan Holub is an award-winning, bestselling author of over 130 children’s books, including the popular series Goddess Girls. She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina.

About the Illustrator:

Leslie Patricelli has published more than 25 books for children, including Yummy Yucky and other titles in the bestselling Bald Baby board book series. She lives in Ketchum, Idaho.

Mini Myths: Make a Wish, Midas!

I give this book 5/5 stars!

I received this book from the author, for my unbiased review. Thanks to Mother Daughter Book Reviews for coordinating this.

Midas loves yellow and wants to paint everything yellow. I loved the illustrations, and also the mythology story at the end of the book so you can teach your children. They will be ahead of the game at school by knowing who Midas is already.

Parents: There is an underlying moral to this book. Midas loves yellow so much, he wants to paint everything yellow. He paints his toy dinosaur half yellow then immediately regrets it. Then he realizes at the end he likes yellow but he loves his dinosaur toy just the way it is.

Children: Children will love the illustrations, and should know what the color yellow looks like at the end of this one! I recommend this book for the ages 0-3, because I am a firm believer in reading books to your child no matter how young they are. (It worked for me!)

Brush Your Hair, Medusa!

I give this book 5/5 stars!

I received this book from the author, for my unbiased review. Thanks to Mother Daughter Book Reviews for coordinating this.

Medusa needs to brush her hair, but she won't. Grandma shows up and takes her to the barbershop. I loved this story, instead of ugly snakes, she has beautiful curly blond hair. The illustrations were great especially the one of Grandma with a shocked look, that takes up two pages. Just like the story of Midas, there is a mythology story about Medusa at the end of the book. Now your children will be ahead of the game at school too!

Parents: There is an underlying moral to this book. Medusa keeps putting off her hair being brushed, so grandma steps in and gets her a haircut. She also calls the barbershop "Candy" since she receives a lollipop there. Then her dad says, Medusa its time to brush your teeth!

Children: Children will love the illustrations, and will learn that grandma will definitely get things done. I love the illustration that is on two pages of the Grandma with a shocked look, looking at Medusa's wild hair. I recommend this book for the ages 0-3, because I am a firm believer in reading books to your child no matter how young they are. (It worked for me!)

What do you think about the Mini Myths Series? I really loved them, and I am sure the books about Pandora and Hercules are just as cute, with underlying morals in them too I am sure.

Guardians of Terath: Seeking Sorrow Book 1
Author: Zen DiPietro
Release Date: March 25th, 2015

An earth-like world of high-tech humans faces the reality that their world is not as safe as they thought it was. Five people are thrown together to quietly get to the bottom of an unfathomable mana event that must stay quiet. If the population of Terath becomes aware of the truth, it will spark a civil war. That war would pit the majority of the population against the powerful minority with the ability to harness and manipulate mana. The resulting cataclysm would decimate the population and tear apart the foundation of society.

The five people chosen for this must reconsider everything they thought they knew about mana, even as they learn to trust one another’s abilities. They must embrace everything they never wanted in order to prevent the devastation of their world. One of them will be forever changed. Love will be denied, badassery will be unleashed, and Terath will never be the same.
Even success comes at a price.

Zen DiPietro is a lifelong bookworm, a fantasy/sci-fi writer, a dancer, and a mom of two. Also red-haired, left-handed, and a vegetarian geek. Absolutely terrible at conforming. Particular loves include badass heroines, Star Trek, British accents, baba ganoush, and the smell of Band-Aids. Writing reviews, author interviews, and fun stuff at Very active on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!

I have been looking forward to reading this one for over a month and it did not disappoint! Once I found out that Zen was another redhead like me I had to check it out! :)

This story was intriguing to me because it is about Mana. I play a mmorpg, called Ultima Online(it's an older one, before WoW), and mana is very important. However, it is even more necessary to the Guardians of Terath.

Zen DiPietro did an awesome job at building up the plot and characters. Once I got to the middle of the book, I couldn't stop reading. I stayed up into the early morning hours to finish it. I cannot wait for the next book. I am a fan now for sure.

I loved each character, especially the Shiv. I loved all the surprises in this book, and I won't spoil any of them. However, I did not see any of them coming, so it definitely was surprising each time! Zen described the characters so vividly I could picture them in my head. I loved Arc, his charisma never faltered.

This book had some violence, no sex or even kissing that I saw (Here's hoping for a lot of kisses in book two.), and just one bad word "dammit" if you consider that a bad word. So I would definitely recommend this for anyone 13+. I think male and females would equally enjoy this story as well!

The ending was great, but left me wanting me more. I cannot wait for book two to see what happens. I couldn't get enough of this story or the characters.

If you like YA fantasy(but really this book is for any age), awesome characters (especially the one with red hair!), and an awesome plot check out this book, you won't be disappointed!

April 7th, 2015

Loop #2

Author: Karen Akins

Release Date: April 7th, 2015

The unbelievably thrilling sequel to the time-travel YA novel Loop

Bree Bennis finally has it all—a non-comatose mother, an uber-hot (albeit anachronistic) boyfriend named Finn, and a new-found mission to protect the timeline from those who would skew it for their own gain. But when she leans over one day to smooch said boyfriend, her lips meet those of her arch-nemesis Wyck instead. The timeline has been altered, and Bree is caught in the crosshairs. But when she goes back to repair the damage, she is stopped by none other than her Future Self, who delivers an urgent message: Someone is kidnapping Shifters from the distant past. It’s up to Bree to stop them. But first, she has to figure out who... and why.

To follow the trail of chronocrumbs, Bree reluctantly accepts her new undercover gig as Wyck’s girlfriend. Everything goes spiffy until Finn shows up in the 23rd century on the eager arm of a gorgeous fellow Shifter,Blark. Even as Bree struggles with jealousy, she battles the nagging dread that Finn might be better off with someone less chronologically complicated. Her worst fear is confirmed when Finn becomes the kidnapper’s next victim. As Bree zeroes in on the culprit, they unravel her life one timeline-
change at a time. She realizes that she alone has the power to save herself and everyone she loves. But to do that, she may lose Finn forever.

Karen Akins lives in the MidSouth where she writes humorous, light YA sci-fi. When not writing or reading, she loves lightsaber dueling with her two sons and forcing her husband to watch BBC shows with her.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!

Wow. I loved this book so much! I hadn't read the first one so I was a bit worried I wouldn't know what was going on, but this book acts as a standalone even though it is the second in the series. I really can't wait to go back and read the first one in the series (Look After You) now too! I really hope the next book has more of Sebastian and Addison too.

This book was so emotionally powerful. Sebastian is a man who has been on three tours in Afghanistan, but that does not break him. Ava does. He had it all worked out to have the perfect life with Ada, but a few things happen to Ava while he is still away. The love and heartbreak he has for Ava is exactly how you feel when you lose someone you love so much.

This novel definitely pulled at my heartstrings several times. I really loved Addison. We are similar in age, and I know how she feels about the dating scene. She seems like such a great recovery counselor too, and she loves her job. Addison is so selfless, but Sebastian does not realize for awhile, that he is as well.

I love Sebastian, he is a perfect book boyfriend, except for maybe a few scenes, but you can always find it in your heart to forgive him. Elena did such a great job writing this. Sebastian didn't seem like some guy we dream about that doesn't truly exist...he is very real. He sometimes is a jerk, and says a lot of guy things that make women roll their eyes. He doesn't want to be in a relationship like so many guys these days, she really nailed it with his character.

I have to admit too, I have a soft spot for Seattle, so since the book was located there it definitely made my day reading it. I read this fast, and I kept telling myself I would go to bed after one more chapter. However, I ended up staying up until 3am finishing the book, then another hour was spent just thinking about how amazing it was. I am definitely a fan of Elena Matthews now for sure!

I’m clutching Ava’s hand as if my life depends on it. My entire body is shaking as I look at the love of my life, my fiancée, the mother of my child in sheer desperation. I love her so damn much. I don’t care that she cheated on me. I don’t care that she didn’t tell me her secret. I can forgive her, I can...
“Where do we go from here, Ava?”
“I have to follow my heart,” Ava says painfully.
“And what does your heart say?”
My adrenaline goes up a notch as I wait for her terrifying answer. I can see her eyes begin to fill with tears and my heart thuds against my chest as I witness the look of pain etched along her beautiful yet battered face. God, the things he did to her… I can’t even contemplate it. Fuck.
Please say it’s me...
I need you...
I love you.
My eyes widen hopelessly as she opens her mouth to speak.
“That Ashton’s the one I want to be with.”
My chin begins to tremble on its own accord, and my insides snap and shatter at her words. An indescribable pain ricochets across my chest and I find it impossible to find my next breath. The tears I didn’t realize I held, begin to fall.
The motherfucking floodgates open and I cry hysterically in the arms of the woman who doesn’t love me anymore.
In that one moment, everything changes, and I turn to the only thing I know will numb the pain of my loss.
